From time to time an artist catches our ear and we have to drop everything to delve in. Not too long ago, that was the case with Jackie West.
A Brooklyn-based experimental folk artist, we first landed upon Jackie’s 2023 single ‘Tiny Flowers ii’ and were captivated. With further listening, the album Close to the Mystery gradually unfurled, from the haunting, string-dappled ‘End of the World’ to the timeless slow-dance of ‘Differences’ and the heavier, moody croon of tracks like ‘Sunroom’ and ‘Snow Amplified’ (which brought to mind aspects of acts like our very own Squirrel Flower).
Noticing that the album isn’t available in UK stores (or anywhere other than the US through Bandcamp, in fact), we decided to buy some in from Jackie and her US label Ruination Records and make them available to our Full Time Hobby followers, figuring if we like it so much, you may too.
